Designing circular market stalls to revive the Charlton Street Market and a portable workbench for re-greening estates in Sommers Town.

Working for the Central St Martin’s Design Against Crime research centre, and in collaboration with Camden Council, I designed and built three innovative market stalls and a portable maker bench for re-greening activities around the Sommers Town estates. The market stalls will be the next step in setting up a circular market on Charlton street. The 3D models displayed here show my proposed designs for both the circular market stalls and the portable maker bench. I have already built initial prototypes of each and we used them at public engagements to gain feedback from the stakeholders and end users. I’m now in the process of building the final versions which will be delivered to the various stakeholders for implementation.

Dry-goods Cargo Bike Stall

Light weight and highly portable, the cargo bike market stall design was created to fit into pre-existing cargo bikes. The user can rent the bike by the hour or for the day before loading it up with the both the stall and the days products. The stalls legs act like an internal frame inside of the box, slotting together inside while only taking up the first couple of inches of perimeter space. This allows you to fill the internal void with what ever it is you plan to sell that day. The prototype was built using reclaimed materials and a few basic tools, meaning aspiring users can access the accompanying open source plans a build their own.
